Wah Gwaan?

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 15, 2026  ·  Last updated: October 15, 2026

Wah Gwaan? ("the App", "we", "us") is a mobile app for learning Jamaican Patois, built by Mitchell Bailey ("the Developer"). This policy explains what information the App does and does not collect, in plain language. There is no legal team behind this document — if you have questions, email us at the address below.

Short version

Wah Gwaan? doesn't have accounts or logins. We don't collect, store, or sell your personal information. Your lesson progress and streak live only on your own device. If the App crashes or hits an error, a basic technical report (not tied to your identity) helps us fix it — see below for exactly what that includes. The only time we ever see anything personally identifiable about you is if you choose to email support — and even then, it's just what you send us.

What we collect

The App itself does not automatically collect personal data. Specifically, we do not collect:

We do use a crash-reporting service (Sentry) to catch bugs and app crashes. If the App crashes or hits an unexpected error, a technical report is sent automatically — this includes things like the error/stack trace, your device model, OS version, and the App's version number. It does not include your name, email, lesson progress, or anything else that identifies you personally, and it's never used for analytics, advertising, or tracking your behavior — only to find and fix bugs. See "Third-party services" below for more detail.

If any of this changes in a future version — for example, if we add optional analytics to understand which lessons are helpful — we'll update this policy first and, where required, ask for your permission.

What's stored on your device

The App saves a small amount of information locally on your phone so it works the way you'd expect between sessions:

This information stays on your device. It is never transmitted to us, sold, or shared. If you delete the App, this data is deleted along with it.

Lesson text, dictionary entries, quiz questions, and audio pronunciations are downloaded from our content database (hosted on Supabase) so the App can display them — this is one-directional content delivery, not a submission of any information about you.

Contacting support

If you use the "Email Us" option in Settings → Tech Support, your device's mail app will open with a message addressed to us. Whatever you choose to include — your email address, a description of the issue, screenshots you attach — is sent to us the same way any email is sent. We use it only to help resolve your question, and we don't add you to a mailing list or share it with anyone else. We may keep support emails for a reasonable time to track recurring issues, then delete them.

The FAQ helper

The "Ask a question" chatbot in Tech Support works entirely on your device. It matches what you type against a built-in list of frequently asked questions — it does not send your questions to us, to any AI provider, or to the internet at all.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of outside services to run the App:

Children's privacy

Wah Gwaan? is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. Because we don't collect personal information from anyone who uses the App, we don't knowingly collect personal information from children either. If you believe a child has contacted us directly (for example, via the support email) and you'd like that message deleted, contact us and we'll remove it.

Data security

Since the App doesn't collect or transmit personal data during normal use, there isn't a personal-data server to secure. Content delivered to the App (lessons, dictionary, audio) and crash reports sent to Sentry both travel over standard encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Changes to this policy

If we change what the App collects or how it works, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. For any change that meaningfully increases what we collect, we'll also let you know inside the App before it takes effect.
